TestimonialsWhat our students say

I’ve always wanted to learn how to play music until Bruno invited me to join his classes. Best decision ever! He paved the way for me to now play independently and to live out my favourite hobby in this world. Not only would he introduce me to all the theoretical stuff about music and its history, but he also proved his teaching skills by empathizing with me as beginner. The cherry on top was his outgoing and supporting/motivating character always making sure one feels comfortable.

The DJ school has been fun, challenging, and such a unique experience. By learning the art of disc jockeying from a true Berliner, my eyes have opened with a new perspective on music forever. Thanks to Bruno, my heart has opened to the artistic music scene in ways I could have never imagined. If you take his classes, yours will too!

Production ManagerFernando Paiz

I just recently started to get interested in composing electronic music on my own so when I came to Bruno I wanted someone experienced to teach me the insights of what’s it all about being a DJ. Not only is it really fun talking and learning with him but it really improves this already high interest of mine for this whole topic of mixing music, and I am sure if there is a good DJ inside me, with him I will be able to make it real.

Where is the DJ school located?

Beatheim is located in the German capital, Berlin. A city considered by many as the epicenter of electronic music and underground club culture worldwide. For more information please visit our menu section “Contact“.

Does the DJ school have any collaboration agreements?

We collaborate directly with Minimal Bar, a venue located in Berlin with many years of history behind it. Beatheim organizes a monthly party there, giving our students the opportunity to perform live and play music with a real audience.

We also have the collaboration of Just Music. International suppliers of DJ equipment with many years of experience. If you are a Beatheim student and need to set up your DJ equipment to start practicing at home, we will advise you and Just Music will provide you with exclusive and personalized discounts. In addition, you will receive a special student card that will allow you to enjoy significant discounts for 6 months whenever you decide to buy products at Just Music’s flagship store located in Moritzplatz (Berlin). As if that were not enough, Just Music also offers its facilities so that once a month our students can perform an exclusive one-hour DJ set, which will be recorded on video and published on their social networks.

Finally, it is also worth mentioning our collaboration with Oyaide Elec. Experienced manufacturers of professional audio cables, who were also pioneers in launching Neo Series, a successful range of cables focused mainly on DJ’s and electronic music producers. All our music equipment is equipped with these top quality cables provided by our friends at Oyaide Elec.

Are the DJ classes group or individual?

Our DJ Courses are primarily individual and personalized (1 on 1), but we also offer group classes for up to 4 people.

What would be the benefits of taking your modules?

Our main objective is to provide you with the techniques and skill sets that will enable you to enter the dj world at professional level . We are fully committed , for the entirety of the course , to your educational and creative process. We will open the doors of the music industry to you, through unique spaces such as our music studio, Berlin bar/clubs and our Soundcloud profile where you can share your DJ Sets or Podcasts with everyone. On top of that, if you complete our professional or full level modules, you will have the possibility to perform in one of the most historic clubs/bars in the city. You will receive your first fee as an artist  and the official diploma from the DJ school.

Do I need to have any previous knowledge before starting a module?

None. Whether you have never mixed before, are just starting out or have some experience, all of our modules are designed for students of all levels. With us, you will awaken your inner DJ, expand your knowledge and turn your passion into your profession.

Are the modules taught in a theoretical or practical way?

Of the two forms, we believe that it is necessary to understand the theory before practicing, especially in those modules that require more technical details. We also have a system of “Quizzes” for each module that you will complete at the end of each class, helping you to review what you have learned and establish concepts in a more effective way.  On the other hand, we understand that a lot of theory without any practice can be tiring, that’s why we support theory with practical examples, and we also have 100% practical modules in our packs: Upgrade, Master or Full Pack.

Do you have online modules?

If you are someone who doesn’t like to travel much, now you can learn virtually with our online package composed of modules based on the format of individual and personalised “one-on-one sessions“. Beatheim does not offer recorded classes, as our online sessions are live tutorials.

In order to do the full course online, you will need to have your own DJ equipment or visit our music studio in Berlin for a few days, because some modules are 100% hands-on and require technical equipment to be completed.

What is the difference between online and on-site modules?

Online Module

If you like the idea of taking the module in your own time and from the comfort of your own home, then we recommend the online module.

  • You will save time and money in having to travel to our school, which will give you also more flexibility.
  • The module (class) will be recorded, so you can download it later and refresh your doubts.
  • Perfect for people who have their own DJ equipment at home, but still need professional guidance from our experienced teacher.

Group On-site Module

If you like the idea of learning with friends or other people with similar tastes, then we suggest the on-site module (maximum 4 people per session).

  • Perfect for people who want fast results
  • Working in a group and being surrounded by other DJs is really motivating
  • A great way to meet like-minded people and make good contacts.
  • Learn from your classmates as well as your teacher

Individual On-site module

If, on the contrary, you wish to have a more personal experience, the individual on-site module is your best option.

  • You will be the sole focus of the teacher’s attention
  • We can customize the modules (classes) according to your specific needs
  • You will learn faster and master more material
  • Low-stress environment
  • The teacher can more easily adapt to your tastes and needs
What genres of electronic music do you teach during the modules?

We do not favor one genre of electronic music over another, as we firmly believe that a good DJ should be open to learning from all types of music without establishing labels that limit their creativity and inspiration. The DJ tips, techniques and concepts covered in our modules can be applied to virtually any genre of electronic music. However, our DJ school does not teach techniques such as scratching or turntablism.

Do I have to bring anything on my first day of school?

Just your interest and willingness to learn 😉 It never hurts to bring examples of artists and music you like, as this will help us to better understand your tastes and goals.

Are the modules customized?

Our aim  is to offer the very best quality and maximum attention for every student , therefore the classes are mainly individual and personalised. Of course  we understand that some students prefer to learn in pairs or in groups, and that is why we also offer Group classes for up to 4 people, great for friends who want to learn together !

Does the teacher have a professional title?

Bruno Otranto will be your teacher. Bruno is a professional DJ/producer who has been working actively in the Berlin and international electronic music scene for years. If you want to know more about him, please visit our section “Teacher“.

Can I get a certificate when I finish the course?

Of course! Upon successful completion of one of the module’s pack, we write a certificate with the total number of hours and the subjects learned during the course. Certificates are not applicable to independently booked modules.

Can the modules be given in several languages?

We currently offer our modules in 3 languages: English, German & Spanish. So the theory and the classes can be given in any of these languages.

Can I schedule my hours flexibly?

No problem, we are very flexible when it comes to scheduling lesson options. After a session, you can decide with your teacher which day and time are best suited to your needs for your next appointment. This way you are not forced to plan too far in advance and if any unforeseen event occurs that changes your plans, you will not be affected.

Do I have to have my own DJ Kit to start a module?

No, we provide you with all the necessary DJ equipment, so you can get started and practice during the classes. We work with many of the leading brands in the industry, and the DJ equipment you will be using is the same as that found in many of the professional clubs.

If you have decided to do online DJ modules rather than face-to-face, then we suggest that you have your own equipment/software to make faster progress during the course, although this is not strictly necessary as you are always welcome to visit our professional music studio in Berlin to practice by booking additional practical classes.

Do you sell or rent DJ equipment/software?

We do not sell or rent DJ equipment directly, as we focus primarily on providing an educational service. However, we will give you personal advice if you decide to buy your own equipment.

When can I play in a bar/club?

Once you have completed all the modules of the Full pack or Master pack you must record your DJ set in our studio with the help and supervision of your teacher. After you have reached a sufficient level to perform live, we will arrange the date of your performance in a Bar/club in Berlin. We simply want to see you applying the techniques you have learned during the course and that you feel at home in the booth. Our aim is to guide you towards that end, making you feel comfortable during the process but particularly on this, your big day.

How many dates can I play?

How often you’ll play out (or mix) is in your hands only! In the course, we will teach you what the clubs expect from you as an artist and how to work with them to ensure that you get repeat bookings! Learn the rules of the game and get your residency locked in, simple!

What happens if I don't want to mix in a bar/club?

Playing clubs and bars is not the only pleasure that can be derived from obtaining these skills. If you just want to learn how to DJ for fun, our course is still your best option, and you are in no way obliged to play live.

How much is the registration fee?

Registration for our DJ modules is completely free, all our modules can be booked individually or through the packs offered, and in none of the cases will you pay extra amounts for registration. What you see is what you pay for, no small print.

Can I register as a minor?

We teach all ages. If you are under 16 years old and one of your parents wants to come, they can attend the class for free.

What form of payment do you accept?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and PayPal as forms of payment.

I'm ready! How can I book modules of Beatheim?

You can book any of our classes through individual modules, module packs or discount coupons.

If you would like more information about how to book, please feel free to visit our how-to book section.
